Gabriele Del Carlo, who was named Italy’s Best Sommelier in 2011 and 2017, is taking over the reins of the hotel’s wine expertise. His aim is to return this form of savoir-faire to its rightful position by drawing on simplicity, technical knowledge and generosity.
A glittering career of Michelin stars and luxury hotels for one of wine’s rising stars, who jumped at the chance to join the teams of Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris to reinvigorate the wine experience at the hotel’s three restaurants: Matsuhisa Paris, Il Carpaccio and Le Bar Long.
His aim is to form a team set apart by their expertise, their intimate knowledge of the 700 bottles offered by the hotel, and their straightforward and friendly style. “I want to bring back the primary objective of the wine experience: to provide a moment of discovery and delight,” says the Director of Sommellerie with conviction. For him, this also means creating new experiences centred on wine, such as masterclasses for novices, blind tastings for fine connoisseurs, and creative events based on mixology.
